This time for her new movie tanking disastrously at the box office. But there’s a much bigger story here that we’re going to get into.
Plus, Meghan Markle has a shiny new job and a shiny new project coming out soon with Netflix. And of course, there’s a whole bunch of drama surrounding that. So, we’re going to get into it. But first, a bit closer to home. >> Yes. I was about to say a little bit closer to home. We’ve got some golden batch news and it’s kind of a little bit contentious because there have been some reports that Bear has ended up on a very popular Facebook group. Yes.
And this is all happening in the last week, right? Like we’re in the last week of the Golden Bachelor. I feel like it just started. I feel like I’ve been in a whirlwind romance watching the show. It’s been quick and very emotional. >> I know everybody loves it. You know, we’re down to our final two ladies and everyone’s very excited about it, but this latest bit of news is what really hooked me in.
Now, there is a Facebook group called Sis Is This Your Man. Okay, so I’m not in this Facebook group, but I know so many women who check it religiously, who participate in it, who are all about it. So, it’s got like a thriving community in Australia. Yeah. I was talking to one of the girls in the office and she’s like, “It’s been one of the most helpful dating assistants in my life because all I do is I find who when I’m dating someone new, I just search their name in this group and then I can see if they’re >> bad or not.
” >> Apparently, Bear has ended up in this group and I haven’t seen it directly, but because because this particular group is private, so you can’t really get into it. But then on the comments of this, they were saying that Bear was a well-known Mossman player. >> So the the the shiny image has kind of getting a little bit >> and Mus being like a richy area in Sydney, right? >> Yes.
>> I wouldn’t know, but that’s what I hear on the street. >> Yeah. So Bears from the Northern Beaches, so this particular area is quite affluent. Yeah. So I’m interested that people are now picking up on this kind of player vibe, >> but that’s very subjective. It could mean a lot of thing.
I’m not I’m not not saying the ladies aren’t telling the truth, but I’m just saying like it it could be like did he date multiple women in a year? Did he just have a bad experience? Like it’s so kind of we don’t have any concrete evidence to sort of say anything against him. But it is juicy, especially in the final week. >> It’s so juicy.
I don’t want to be a male apologist. >> Yeah. Oh, go on. Let’s be a male apologist. >> Not being a pick me girl here. I swear. But if you lose your wife and then you start dating and you’re a good-looking older guy and you’re just dating a couple of women >> and maybe you were being a bit of a player and a bit of an ass, it doesn’t mean that you’re an ass all the time.
>> Yeah. I just think I would need a little bit more information to comment on this fully. Like I’d need to sit down with these women like over a glass of wine and like just literally tell me everything that happened. But we just don’t have any information like that. But I also think like this is very kind of this is kind of how most reality TV shows go is that we get presented with these people both the contestant like the lead person.
We get their backstory which is always very emotional. We get the backstories of all the contestants and they’re very emotional but they’re always presented to us as very like cookie cutter wonderful people who have never done anything wrong. There’s just no human being that’s like that. >> Absolutely not. No one is good or evil.
this we are a dichotomy of both things but like human condition but >> but also he might be a dirty dog and maybe that will come out later and that’ll be very dramatic. >> There were some rumors obviously that Sam Armitage and him were dating and everyone was going nuts because when they got off their flight from South Africa they were together and everyone’s like oh where’s the girl? Well, they’re hiding her.
>> Yeah, that’s been interesting. I mean that Sam Armitage and Bear rumor started super early on when they walked the red carpet the Lois together. But I’m going to say I saw them up close and personal at the Lois and I’ve got to say I didn’t really see anything unprofessional. You have to walk with the person that you’re promoting the show.
Like I wish this was more scandalous. That would be so much better for me. But um they just didn’t seem I mean obviously they were chatty but like you it’s a long red carpet. You’re waiting to go into interviews. They were then spotted together at multiple work events but again it’s the host and the lead man and he can’t he has to be kept se separate from all the female contestants.
So there’s literally no one else for him to be spotted with. And those photos getting off the plane. Yeah. The of coming back from the finale and that’s all filmed and we won’t know until this weekend which woman he picked if indeed he picked anyone. But I think he will. I don’t >> want to do it a Hardy Badger. >> Yeah.
I I feel like he’s picked someone for sure. And they were all like um Oh, they get off the plane together. It’s like Well, yeah. If you look at the full shots, it’s the whole crew getting off the plane together with them, but the photos are cropped in just to show Bear and Sam together to make it look like they’re having a little rendevu in a very public airport.
and also saying that that he looked downcast so that people think he picked no one. And I was like, I defy anyone to get off a long haul flight and not look downcast. That is the worst feeling in the world. >> Who’s coming off a plane like with, you know, ear to ear smiles? Like never. >> Even if you’ve been in business, you’ve still been on a plane. That’s hell.

So people have loved this iteration of a series and using older people in this because it is more endearing.
It feels like people don’t want to be an Instagram influencer. It feels so much more real. So, I asked some ladies around the office >> who they would want to be the Golden Bachelorette. And I got Sunny. >> Yeah. She’s been a standout favorite. Kim. >> Yeah. And Bianca. >> Yeah. Bianca. I always thought obviously cuz she’s been a media personality for so many years.
Like she’s been a radio host and a TV host for over 20 years and has like shared her story about her marriage breakdown and her fertility and everything. So, I feel like everyone is so pr everyone was already on her team, but after this season, they’re more on her team, >> media trained. She’s she’s basically good to go >> and she’s just Yeah.
She’s like really lights up the screen. I feel like she I mean, they’d all be great, but I feel like it would be a very safe bet from the network to do a Golden Bachelorette and make her the star. >> Yeah. So, this it’s kind of interesting because I wanted to play you something that happened in Hometowns last night. >> Are you a feminist? >> Am I a feminist? >> Yes.
>> No. The fact that he answers so confidently, I just feel like that [music] tells a lot about who he is as a person, especially because his answers make him seem like he’s [music] a feminist. >> For a guy to be a feminist, >> well, >> do you know what it means? >> No, not really. >> Look, I come from [music] a family of all boys, raising all boys, so I admit I have no idea what being a feminist means.
>> Tell me what you mean. >> You don’t have to be a woman to be a feminist. Everyone should be feminist because it just means that you believe that all people are equal, including men and women are equal. >> Well, of course. Yes. Well, I’m a feminist. >> Okay. Okay. >> Bear not knowing what feminism is definitely could be a generational [music] thing.
So, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt because it does seem like he’s really into my mom. >> What do you think of that? He doesn’t know what a feminist is. >> I do. I mean, the fact that he sort of says at the end like, “Oh, no. I I believe men and women should be equal.” does make me feel that he’s not like all women should be in the kitchen kind of thing or shouldn’t have jobs or anything like that.
I just I don’t know it does people do have a weird some people have a very weird takeaway for the word feminist especially not to generalize but especially in older generations where they’re set like I still hear women say like oh no I’m not a feminist cuz I love my husband or I’m not a feminist because I have a son like I think that there’s sometimes a people misconrue the word and they think it means I hate men but I think when he heard like oh but it just means men and women are equal he was like oh yeah yeah he just sounds like kind of like an
older dad who’s not versed in that stuff and that’s pretty common. I 100% agree with you because I think about the men in their 60s that I know and we’re talking about a younger boomer here. So, the younger boomer generation >> that their interpretation of the word feminist and I feel like I’m being really I’m really apologizing for him, but it’s it’s just because I I can kind of get where he’s coming from.
He’s just an older dude. They associate it with that sort of 70s feminism where they’re burning bras and they’ve got long armpit hairs and they hate men and it like that’s what they believe rather than >> acknowledging it’s got such a negative connotation to it. And I think that’s probably what he understood by it. Exactly.
>> I don’t think he’s stupid. I just think he has a perception of what’s in their brain of what a feminist. Again, I think much like I mean not to equate the SI is this your man with feminist and although it is a feminist organization so maybe it is but I think again I would need like more than just a TV grab to hear his thoughts on that because I think it it’s a kind of like a bigger conversation but I I think he sort of came off like are people ragging on him for this or did he come off okay? >> I think he’s just getting a little bit
in the kind of pull out moment from the episode. I think it’s just people picking up on it generally going. But I think it’s just one of those things that dads say that you kind of go, “Oh god.” You roll your eyes at them. Like I’ve heard many boomers where I’m like, “Oh god.
” You roll your eyes at them and you move on. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> But yes, we can correct him sometime and tell him what a feminist is. >> So we have two bits of news for Megan Markle this week. Well, two bits of career news because she’s always in the headlines for no matter what she does. So the first bit of news is that her Netflix holiday special officially has a release date.
So, with Love, Megan, Holiday Celebration, I mean, I guess the title kind of speaks for itself, but I feel like no one put any hard work into thinking up something um a bit tricky there, is going to arrive on December 3rd, and it has been described by Netflix as a magical holiday celebration with a Christmas themed episode of her much-loved reality series with Love, Megan.
>> Much love, is an interesting life. >> Yeah, I mean, that’s kind of just been the tagline a few places that wasn’t in the official statement to be fair. Um, and it said that Megan will likely be showing a sort of over-the-top American festive season. So, this is kind of interesting news because obviously the two seasons of With Love Megan, well, I guess they filmed it all in one clump and then just sliced it down the middle, there was so much backlash around that for people saying it was a poor quality show and then when the Netflix report
came out, it was um quite far down the list. So, it didn’t crack the top 100. And now there’s this conversation happening. Well, it kind of done that badly if Netflix have commissioned a Christmas special. And to that, I’ll say that it would have been filmed at the same time as they did the first two seasons, and it was already in the contract and already in the slate.
>> Exactly. >> For like Christmas program happens a year out, so would have already been in the works. >> This absolutely has been pre-planned and it would have already either been recorded or um in the contract like you said. There’s no way this was done filmed recently off the back of of her previous seasons.
So, they haven’t announced a season three for With Love Megan yet. So, we don’t know if that’s going to happen, >> but it does look like it’s not though because they everything she said that she said her deal with Netflix has changed. It still might something might pop out. So, I think there’s something to do now.
I mean, she sort of said in a few different ways in interviews, but they had that big like production deal with Netflix and a lot of those projects didn’t get off the ground like the animated series they were trying to do and all these things. Um, and so now I think Megan has said that it’s more of they have like a first look deal with Netflix.
So she’s talked about having this like really close relationship with them and saying that when she and Harry have ideas to pitch, they’ll come to Netflix and give them the first look. So make of that what you will. But so so a lot of the responses to this particular special and some of the clips that have come out beforehand, one of the things that she shared is she used to teach advanced gift wrapping at Paper Source between >> advanced gift wrapping.
I have so many questions. >> I thought it was a joke. >> I don’t That’s the thing. It’s not a joke. >> It’s not. Okay. >> Do you think you go beginner, intermediate, and then advanced? And do you think there’s a test? >> So So I think Paper Source is like a a stationary >> Yeah. >> a stationary store in the States. So apparently she’s just to teach classes there during her auditions when she would audition.
To be fair, a good a well wrapped gift is hard to do. >> Oh, 100%. No, I’m not. >> It just makes me laugh. It’s just so absurd. >> No, part of me I think I need to take that class because when I was in high school, I worked at Kmart. We had a gift wrapping table and I really wanted to put on the gift wrapping table cuz it was better than like stacking boxes or being behind a checkout.
And I was on there for 2 hours before my manager took me off cuz my gift wrapping was so bad and I was never allowed back. And even now every year my brother always looks at the trains like before we hand out all our gifts cuz we do it as a family and always like we can tell which ones Laura wrapped cuz they’re so shitty every year.
So I was like maybe I’m just want to take Megan Markle’s gift wrapping class. >> I think we should do maybe there’s an online class. >> Oh my gosh, we definitely So when it comes out we can she does a gift wrapping segment in the special. >> Yes. >> So maybe we could like watch it and try and do it all together. >> I’ve got to say I found some of the parts of with Love Megan, all jokes aside, a little bit instructive cuz I have no skills in the homeware area.
>> But this is I think this is the thing. So a lot of people look at it and go, “Oh, for God’s sake.” Like they kind of roll their eyes at it. They think it’s stupid, but there are some fun things in there. Like I I love gift I Google gift wrapping things really >> all the time on Tik Tok around Christmas.
So last year I figured out how to make like big bon bonss out of Christmas paper. >> That sounds so hard. >> So if you want to wrap like a something that’s a bit rounder like I used I did it with the kids soft toys like they bought them like little plushies and so I rolled it up and then you make you cut the special you cut some special way.
I’m trying to demonstrate. You guys should see what’s happen. I’m [laughter] trying to demonstrate here, but it’s not working very well. And then you make it into like a big bon bon and it’s so cute. And that’s what I did this. Like I love doing it. So I >> I can’t believe in this episode we’ve become cheating mail apologists and Mega Markle gift wrapping apologist.
But like that’s the take. That’s the that’s the stance we’re going with. >> I know. Seriously. The other one was that she um has this spice mix that she sells >> on as ever and apparently it’s like like a mold mold spice kit >> and she does a segment on it where she’s >> pouring boiling water into a pot, puts the spice mix in and people like oh so it’s just spiced water and I was like spiced water is tea is it? >> Tea is tea is basically just spiced water.
Oh, I hadn’t dived into the semantics of that, but yes, I think if you look, you can find a hateful thing to say there, but I’m just saying it might be a bit instructive. So, she’s got that career thing going on. And obviously, we’ll be tuning in to the Megan Markle Christmas special. A word I never thought I’d say. She’s also >> It’s a holiday special, not a Christmas special, of course, cuz the holidays is a full season, not just today.
Um, so she’s also got another project in the works and that is the fact that she is making her return to acting in the upcoming Amazon Studios film Close Personal Friends. Okay. Where she will play a small role, but a big role in a way because she is playing herself. >> I know this is the thing. I saw this headline. I was like, “Oh, great.
She’s she’s going back into acting. She’s doing what she wants to do again. She’s just playing herself in a cameo.” But I think that that’s still like I think that’s the correct way for her to kind of dip her toe back in the acting water. If she came out as a lead of a show or something like that, it would just be a little off brand for what she’s trying to do.
Plus, she would get absolutely ripped apart. So, I think this is a fun way because she’s playing herself. We don’t know what the role will be, but it might be like a kind of maybe it’ll be a funny version of herself or a cutesy version, something. There’ll be some sort of in joke with the story. And so she was photographed on the set in California and an insider of the film told People magazine, I love the covert like information passing that’s happening here is that she introduced herself as Megan.
I was like, what is the woman supposed to say that like she introduced herself as Megan? Everyone was like, “Wow.” It’s just like Well, I mean it is weird. I remember I I always think when I meet celebrities like I remember like I sat down and at the Wicked Press junket last year and Ariana’s like, “Oh, so nice to meet you. I’m Ariana.
” And Cynthia’s like, “And hello, I’m Cynthia.” And I was like, “Yeah, of course.” But also, what are you supposed to say? Like, if you say, “Hi, it’s me. You know who I am.” Then you look like a difficult dramatic person. >> It’s a it’s a humble way to do like it’s what they should be doing. But, you know, you you expect them to go, “Hi, I’m Ariana Grande, not I’m Ariana.
” Like, you expect them to do their whole their full name. >> But then that would look worse. It’s like when Brad Pit was at the Oscars and he put a name tag at the Oscars mixer and he put a name tag on that said Brad Pitt and he got absolutely roasted. But I’m also like it would have been worse. Now I’m apologizing for Brad Pitt.
Jesus Christ. >> But then if he refused to wear the name tag, everyone would say Brad Pit’s a drama queen because he refused to wear a name tag. So there is no way to win. Poor celebrities. They have it so rough. Anyway, then the insider went on to say everything about her was very sweet and calm.
She seemed genuine excited to be on set. She was even joking that she felt a bit rusty, but it was obvious that she had rehearsed and that this was a very big deal for her to be back. And she was so great. And they kept going. She brought a warm energy, too. And I’m like, we get it. She was nice. It’s like they have to really hammer it down.
She was super pleasant [laughter] to be around. Okay. Thou doth protest too much is what I calm down. This insider, this insider was just ready to do a full PR. >> Insider’s been paid by Megan and Harry. >> So, Close Personal Friends is upcoming movie. It’s got a really good cast actually.
So, this isn’t just like a throwaway movie that’s going to die on a streamer somewhere. It’s Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Henry Golding, our fave. Um, and it’s about this couple who befriend a famous couple on a trip to Santa Barbara and it’s a whole kind of situation. So, I guess because it’s about a famous couple, Megan Markle might be playing like a friend of their cuz she’s all about mixing with the celebrities now.
>> But she won’t be the celebrity couple though because >> No, no, no. It’s them. No, but I think she might be the friend of the celebrity couple in the movie because it’ll be showing like the famous people they mix with and she is being photographed at all these famous events at the moment which brings us to the other reason she’s in the news at the moment.
>> And there is an even better segue there because close personal friends is the production company who are making this movie. It’s owned by Jeff Bezos. >> Which leads us to the next thing that we’re going to talk about and that is Christa’s 70th birthday. Yes. So, Megan and Harry have been in the headlines again a lot recently, but recently for being at Chris Jenner’s big 70th birthday bash, which had a James Bond 007 theme because she was turning 70.
And I feel like every celeb in Hollywood was there. Like the guest list of people going in was not just her favorite family, but obviously like their old school friends like Paris Hilton was there, Megan Markle and Harry, but also it was hosted by Jeff Bezos at his home or one of his many homes. >> His home, his mansion in Beverly Hills.
Um they apparently had a bunch of noise complaints throughout the night. The police kept getting >> the police kept coming because they all the celebs were far too rowdy. >> My thought on that is like how are you surely those grounds and it’s like a compound is so big that how are you getting noise complaints? >> Steven Spielberg’s next door being like guys keep it down.
>> Yeah. Like surely all the famous neighbors were also invited but also I guess someone had a vendetta. But yeah, police called multiple times was one of the big headlines that came out. So Harry and Megan were actually at that baby to baby gala earlier on in the evening. >> This situation has really thrown me because I keep seeing like like Paris Hilton has and I know this is a weird thing to be concerned about but Paris Hilton was wearing this really statement dress like sequined long gown dripping in sparkles a cape and then there’s
photos of her at the baby to baby event and there’s photos of her at Jenna’s birthday. And a lot of celebs went to both if if indeed like they were at that same event. I’ve heard sort of conflicting reports, but Paris Hilton’s the only one who wore the same dress and it’s such a statement dress. Nothing wrong with that, but it just I don’t know.
It was confusing when I saw Hilton for wearing >> confused with the reporting. I was like, what’s happening here? Like I expect these publications to get to the bottom of what’s happening. Also weird that the Kardashians would have an event on the same night as the Baby Gala because they’ve traditionally always gone to that.
It’s a huge organization that every famous woman in Hollywood is really public about. And Kim usually makes some of the biggest donations of the night according to Mindy Kaling. So weird that they would throw her birthday party on the same night as an event that everyone goes to. >> They need like a social diary thing where they can say that there’s a conflicting event.
But I saw cuz Serena Williams was at baby Gala and we saw the photos of Harry and Megan and Serena all together >> and then they were then at the birthday party. So maybe the birthday party doesn’t start till like 10 after the gala finish. >> I don’t want to throw shade at anyone at any age, but I don’t know if a 70th is starting at 10.
They’ve in Hollywood and what else they’ve got going on there. >> I think Kim Kardashian said she goes to bed at like 8:00. I just don’t know about that. >> But they’ve got, you know, Chris Jenner’s plastic surgeon was there. >> Yeah, obviously she’s been singing that man’s praises from the rooftops. Maybe there’s even a secret password because after she came out and said, “This is the facelift I got done.
This is the procedure and this is the doctor who did it.” Apparently, so many just random people called the office and said, “I’m a friend of Christ Jenna.” And she recommended me to the point where Christa had to give this doctor a password where she’s like, “If any of my real friends call up with a referral from me, they’ll say this secret code and that’s when you can treat them.
So, no one else can get it unless you have the secret code.” >> Oh my god, I want the secret code. >> I know. Why you want to get a Christian a facelift? >> Well, not now, but I want >> That’s on stage. I take it now. If he gave it to me now, I’d be like, “Yeah, whatever you want. >> Pocket for later.
” Well, I don’t know how to get that information, but I’ll work on it. >> We need to start dig like deep diving. >> Can you use your journalistic >> I’ll use my last minute interaction I had with Kim Kardashian and over Zoom to get that information. >> I love that. But okay, so so the reason Megan and Harry were getting a little bit of Yeah, we we kind of went off topic here, but the reason Megan and Harry were getting a little bit of flack for being at this particular birthday party, the palace apparently there was a palace insider that said that this was
very tacky. >> Yes. The reason being the event uh took place over the weekend which coincided with Rembrance Day which is where we all wear our red poppies um on our chest. You can see Harry is wearing his and it is obviously honoring those who have died in service. And this is particularly important because it was the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
And people are saying that it was tacky that he was at this birthday party whilst, you know, we’ve got his brother and father, the king doing these memorial services. And Princess Anne is here in Australia commemorating here. It’s a very important day. And I think Harry understands the gravity of this because he has served Yes.
two tours in Afghanistan. He understands the gravity of military service. >> Yes. And he has a whole foundation for service people who were injured in the line of duty. >> Yes. Absolutely. So I I don’t think that that’s a very fair assumption to make that he this is tacky for him to be attending his birthday.
He understands the gravity of this day. >> Yeah. I think that that’s just that’s really the story that’s been put out into the media and into the world. And you know, you got to kind of assume it’s coming from the royal family, at least for the office of the royal family, because we keep seeing these two different storylines playing out at the same time.
One is Harry and Megan pictured at all these very luxe Hollywood events, going to Cristiano’s 70th birthday, partying with celebs, being spotted with Jeff Bezos, her being on sets of movies, them like showing little snippets of their crazy rich home and all these things. And then we’re seeing these photos of Kate and William because it always comes back to these two couples and what they’re both doing.
And this idea that William is really pushing for the monarchy to be very stripped back, to be very like wear of service. People are saying that he was the one who really pushed for Prince Andrew to have his title stripped and for him not to be involved with the royal family. He’s the one pushing for them to sort of not appear as like as this indulgent luxury thing of like we’re here just to serve the people.
He’s also given a new interview this week about like talking about Kate’s cancer diagnosis and how that affected them as a family and how that affected their children. And so there’s two big narratives that we’re seeing come out is like Megan and Harry drinking with like rich people and being like really scandalous and then Kate and William in these very solemn photos just trying to get through this health battle trying to serve the you know in the Queen’s name in the Commonwealth and everything.
And I just don’t think it’s that sort of clearcut but it’s a very strong narrative. Yeah, it is very strong and it it’s so easy to see that because that 1% that we see were all at Jeff Bezos’s mansion. These are all the richest of the rich and characteristically the royal family are the original 1% you could say.
So they they’ve kind of taken he’s he’s thrown out his title quote unquote thrown out his title left the royal family to join this other royal family. I don’t think it’s a particularly fair assessment. I have seen how much work Harry puts into being a service member. It wasn’t performative. He was really that was a really important part of his life and he’s done that as as he’s grown up in, you know, all of his charities that he works with.
But you’re right, it is a very very strong narrative and it’s so polarizing when you see the images from both of these >> events, but it feels a bit unfair to me. >> I mean, that’s always been the narrative since Megan married into this family, this whole kind of these jewel story lines. So, it’s not really anything new, but I think it it continues to be the real talking point.
But look, we’ve got two now Meghan Markle projects to look forward to. We’ve got her Christmas special, which obviously we’ll be tuning into as previously discussed, and her acting return. And I’m, you know, it’s probably going to be the same thing as we’re seeing now. A lot of fandom, but also a lot of negative headlines just like everything else she does.
So, we’ve had a lot of Sydney Sweeney stories in the headlines recently, which again is pretty much part of the course for this blonde woman and her big boobs. Um, but it’s all Yeah, they’re so great. Just a quick defense of the boob dress she wore the other day. Can I just say if that woman had a flat chest, no one would have blinked an eye.
Women wear naked dresses all the time. >> Just cuz she has big boobs. So maybe that’s just a personal heel. But >> no, I agree with you. It really pisses me off. >> I watched in real time as people reacted to that photo. So many people around me those photos like what is she doing? And as a fellow woman with big boobs, obviously mine are three times the size of hers, but this idea that like you’re just putting them out there trying to make a statement.
They come everywhere with you. They’re like two roommates who come along for the ride and so you can’t hide them away. >> I I am so with you. Again, I am a a large breasted woman. Um and I really empathize with it because I remember when I would wear things and your boobs move when you walk, >> let alone run.
Like if you’re running without the proper protection, those things are going to be whacking you in the face. >> Yeah, exactly. So this idea that she was being like so over the top and putting her boobs out. I’m just saying again, if it was a flatchested woman, that wouldn’t have been a story. It would have been another naked dress.
Anyway, does have really nice boobs. >> Yes, she does have she does have nice boobs and I think they should just be allowed to be out in the world. I have other issues. >> Stop covering like the nipples. Why are you covering the nipples in photos? I really >> love the issues with Sydney Sweeney. Her boobs are not one of them.
Anyway, so all of this press she’s been doing lately and all the headlines that have come of it have come from her new movie Christy, which is the story um based of Christy Martin, the real life boxer. And there’s been a big buildup to it because Sydney obviously there was those photos that came out when she was training for the role and she got really muscly and these pat photos were taken of her.
I think someone drove a boat past her home cuz she lives on the water with a long lens and took photos and she had to come out and say it’s for a role and I won’t be shamed for it. So that was a whole big thing. She’s been doing so much press. So the movie has come out. It hasn’t performed well at the box office.
There’s no way to say it. Um, apparently it’s among the top 12 worst openings for a new release movie for the number of screens it played on. And that list also took into account movies that opened just after co and also re-release titles. So that is how low it’s performed under those, you know, even times where people weren’t going to the movies.
>> $1.3 million in the opening weekend, >> which is >> probably how much she got paid for the role. like it is low for for a massive blockbuster movie like biopic biopic movie indie movie. I mean the thing is we saw a similar we saw a similar story when her last movie Americana came out and that also performed very low at the box office but the actual story there was it didn’t perform that low when you took into account it was a tiny indie movie smaller release.
It’s just because when Sydney Sweeny’s name is on it, people are expecting these big like anyone but you kind of box office franchisey things when a lot of these movies that she’s making through her production company are quite small. But I think this this was even lower than her company expected to the point where she put out a statement on her socials um where she very much defended the movie.
So she had a whole big carousel of photos of behindthe-scenes shots from making it and she said, “I am so deeply proud of this movie. I am proud of this film and the story we told and has [snorts] been one of the greatest honors of my life. And she then wanted to talk about what the film stands for, survival, courage, and hope. And also she said that they ran a campaign to help um raise money and awareness for domestic violence while making the movie cuz that’s a huge part of Christy’s story that they really devote a lot of time to in the movie. And she said that
she’s hoping that what they the work they’ve done could save lives. And she pretty much ended it by saying that so she said, “So yes, I’m proud.” So, she’s obviously aware of all the stories around there about Sydney Sweeney movies flopped and all those headlines. So, she ended by saying, “Yes, I’m proud.
” Why? Because we don’t always just make art for numbers. We make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life. I do appreciate that she’s saying a lot about sort of domestic violence and and really hearing that as part of a core of a story. I appreciate that she’s doing that. Uh, a lot of the backlash has come from a particular GQ interview that she’s done.
It’s gone completely viral over the last few days where she addresses the American Eagle jeans ad controversy. >> Before we get to that, I do want to quickly go into another quote from that article that I haven’t seen pulled out, >> and it really ties back to this about the roles that she chooses and her sexuality.
She says, “I’ve always believed that I’m not here to tell people what to think. I’m just here to kind of open their eyes to different ideas. That’s why I gravitate towards characters and stories that are complicated and are maybe morally questionable.” [snorts] And characters that are on the page, hard to like, but then you find the humanity underneath them.
>> There is something about that quote because if you think about Cassie from Euphoria, not a very likable character, like her behavior is very questionable in Euphoria. And then you look at some of the other things that she’s done in her life and this particular role that she’s played, this Christy role where she had to gain what 10 kilos, 12 kilos or whatever it was.
And you know, she’s playing this boxer, this hardcore boxer. >> It’s just a really interesting I feel like we get a lot of insight into who she is as a person from that particular quote. But that’s not the thing that people have taken out of this article. What they’ve taken out of it is her response to the American Eagle Jeans Act.
>> Yeah. which was like I don’t want to talk another journalist but it was a real softball question and the thing about Sydney Sweeney is that she’s it’s not even media training like it’s it’s media training in a way but she just shuts down in interviews and she just shuts down in a way where her whole face just kind of goes slack and then there’s this like vacant stare behind her eyes stare >> I even I don’t even think it’s that it’s it’s something different completely where she just it’s like she just mentally removes herself from the
situation. And she knows that she has the power to do that because she is not she does she obviously needs press for her movies, but she is not as reliant on having these she has these big talked about moments without having to sort of give a lot in interviews. And so she’ll do an interview and she’ll just shut down. She never gives an answer.
There’s if you watch like the full clip, she’ll just sit in silence for ages and kind kind of just look off into the distance. and she knows that there’s going to be no repercussions for that because people aren’t going to stop interviewing her. They’re not going to stop putting her in magazine covers or putting her in movies.
And from that, she just gets more attention for her projects. >> She doesn’t care about the social contract. >> You know, that social contract that we we have with with people you talk to every day. The way that she responds to this woman is very like is a complete blank state. She looks so so unbothered. >> Yeah.
because she knows at the end of the day like yes there’s a lot of negative headlines around her but there’s a lot of negative headlines around any woman who’s in the like you know there’s a lot of negative headlines around Jennifer Lawrence and people love her heaps people love Megan Markle there’s lots of negative headlines around her that’s just what people click on but it’s interesting because she knows at the end of the day she’s always the winner in a way because yes like she got a lot of flack for that American Eagle ad but those jeans sold out
>> they sold out AC ac through every store online and there was a huge for everyone who was calling her out for how problematic that was. There were louder voices saying that they loved her for it and and so at the end of the day, she comes out a winner. And again, even with this movie tanking at the box office, she’ll have other movies that come out that make a lot of money.
She’s also there’s been talk that she did this movie to try and get an Oscar, which I do believe is a little bit true. I believe that the Oscar campaign has been seated. I don’t know with how it’s performed and what the critics have said if it will take off, but she’s definitely gunning for an Oscar is what I’m seeing.
She’s very businessminded, I think, in that way because she did Madame Web, which was a huge flop and a critical flop, but she sees that as a win. And she’s so not calculated, she’s just very businessminded in this way that she sees that as a win because she did that movie and then she went to the same production company while filming the movie to get Immaculate made, which is a project that she had wanted to make for a long time and leveraged her performance in Madame Webb to get the studio to make the movie she wanted.
So, at the end of the day, she was getting roasted for the Madam Web reviews and how bad that was. But you just look at her face and she’s just smiling because she won because she got her movie made and it was critically acclaimed. >> So, at the it’s it always seems like she’s on the downfall, but she’s always on the uptake with everything she does.
>> She is definitely got a very thick skin. I don’t know how she takes all of that cuz she’s getting a lot of flack for this. I just found it really really fascinating that this particular thing has had some responses from celebrities as well. >> So Amy Lee Wood, who was also in White Lotus, >> different seasons, >> but they were both in White Lotus.
>> Amy Lee Wood responded to the video with a vomiting Yeah. >> emoji. That’s the correct response. I feel like Amy Lou would probably didn’t think that that was going to be shared as much as it was and wouldn’t go on to make headlines, but I do think that was the correct response for that kind of very weak answer to a huge question.
I thought it was a massive cop out. >> Oh, yeah. Just it was so all you have to do is say that wasn’t my intention. That’s not the way that I feel. >> Yeah. But I also just think she just doesn’t feel that way. It’s interesting because I’ve seen a lot of comments recently around like how Sydney Sweeney is not someone who was meant to be famous.
Like there’s that tweet going viral on threads and stuff where someone’s like, “We we shouldn’t be exposed to Sydney Sweeny this way. She’s someone who’s meant to be like the prettiest waitress at the Waffle House or the prettiest girl who peaked in high school or something.” Like they’re just saying that she’s kind of just meant to be like she’s just a small town girl with like weird beliefs who’s been exposed to the world.
I don’t completely believe that cuz I actually think she’s the perfect kind of person to be famous because she is able to just shut down when there’s criticism and it doesn’t feel like it affects her and it just washes off her back. And I mean that’s from everything we’ve seen from her. Obviously we don’t know for sure but she seems like the kind of person who is the perfect person to be famous because she doesn’t she’s not crumpling under the weight of expectation and criticism.
She’s just like I made my movie and I’m going to make another one and now I’m going to like be on my hit TV show and I’m just going to keep going and it’s fine and I’m going to kiss my new boyfriend on a rock in Central Park where Did you see those photos? >> No. >> Okay. First of all, can I just say when I’m wrong, I’m wrong.
Because when it came out that she was potentially dating Scooter Brawn, that’s why we talked about this. >> I was like, “Guys, she’s not dating Scooter Brawn.” Like, they >> I believed it. I believed it. >> Well, look, >> wait, I have to go back and listen to the other. >> Yeah. Yeah. I just cuz those rumors came out when they were spotted together at the wedding and there was a whole big group of people and it’s that whole thing where it’s a big group of people and then we cut into two and it looks like they’re on a date. And the same
thing happened with her and Orlando. like they with a group, big group of people, her and Orlando Bloom at the wedding after he’d broken up with Katy Perry. And if you look at the photos, it looks like they’re on a date, but when you look at the full photo, it’s just a bunch of people at a wedding. >> Did you ever think that when we talked about that Jeff Bezos wedding that it would impact so many of the episodes that we’ve done since? >> No, it is just it has really infected like not infected.
>> It’s like a butterfly flapping its wings and a tsunami happens in another country. Like it has had widespread effect. >> It has had a real ripple effect on this show >> across Yeah. AC, I guess. across the world. Um, so Scooter Braun and Sydney Sweeney have been dating. They’ve been very they’ve been photographed out together holding hands and stuff, but nothing sort of overly public until recently.
They were walking through Central Park and they sit on top of a big rock, like the biggest >> Oh, yeah. The rock at Central Park. >> Yeah. Yeah. in the most public place you can be and they have a full-on makeout session. And I can only imagine from the amount of angles and photos there are about this that there was just a throng of bystanders all with their cameras out just taking heaps of photos and videos of them and they just didn’t care >> having a Mac.
>> I don’t like that for her. I don’t I just I’ve seen a lot of people say when someone tells you who they are, believe them. >> And that I’m getting a lot of that from Sydney Sweeney. I I do think she is a pretty good actress. I really liked her new for I thought she played Cassie very very well.
I do think she’s a good actress, but watching what she the way that she behaves, I just am disliking her more and more and more. But it’s interesting she’s she’s sticking up for domestic abuse survivors in a way that was not done in other press runs of other movies that were covering domestic violence. So, I appreciate that.
Again, people are complex, but just the way that she’s responded. I don’t like Scooter Brawn. Just getting really icky vibes. >> I just think that she went from being like I mean I don’t know that much about her old her old fiance that they, you know, made movies together and stuff. It just went feel as like she went from some older controlling guy to another older controlling guy.
She’s saying in interviews that she’s single, but the Pride Rock photo tells us that she’s not. I also just think kind of full circle it out is that we have been talking a lot about how huge kind of like dramatic moments and like lots of headlines and things will make people want to watch a project. And if that was Sydney Sony’s intention, which I don’t know if it was, I think her intention was to kind I think that she thought that people would be very invested in like her body transformation and this story and this idea that she’s come from
a teen show and now she’s wanting to win an Oscar. I think she thought that would kind of be the arc for this show. But it kind of shows that with even with all the drama leading up to this movie and the headlines and the press run and the boobs and the rock photo and everything that it’s still didn’t drive people to see the movie.
So, it kind of goes to show that you can have a dramatic press run and that it doesn’t mean that people are actually going to buy a ticket for your movie.
