Dr. Mehmet Oz has a simple explanation for President Donald Trump’s frequent doctor visits.

During a White House press briefing on Tuesday, June 2, a reporter asked Oz, 65, why the president keeps having checkups if he is in “such perfect health.”

“I think because he likes the results,” Oz, who serves as the Administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said of Trump, 79.

“He does really well,” Oz continued. “He aces the tests every single day, and I do actually believe that he is curious to make sure everything is going in the right direction. He’s a very meticulous person in so many ways that are often underappreciated.”

“But for him to want to know all the numbers and keep on top of him, it’s the same reason he calls people at odd hours because something’s on his mind. He wants to deal with it,” Oz said.

Trump’s health has made headlines following public appearances in which there was visible bruising or makeup and bandages to cover the dark spots.

During a Jan. 1 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump said that his visible hand bruises are due to him taking a higher dose of aspirin than his doctors advised because he’s “superstitious.”

“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” Trump told the outlet. “I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”

There was also an alleged instance in which Pam Bondicaused his hand to bleed at the 2024 Republican National Convention after giving him a high-five while she was wearing a ring.

“The ring hit the back of my hand, and, yes, there was a slight little cut,” Trump said in the interview, acknowledging that he had used makeup on the marks.

The outlet also asked him about photos of him appearing to fall asleep in meetings, which the president denied.

“I’ll just close [my eyes]. It’s very relaxing to me,” Trump said. “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink.”

More recently, Trump, who was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, was scheduled for a late May visit to Walter Reed Hospital for his third health checkup in 13 months.

He authorized the public release of his exam results after claiming in a May 29 Truth Social post that the physical exam went “PERFECTLY.”

His physician, Capt. Sean Barbabella, DO, said Trump’s bruises were “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.”
