From the whole Bieber drama with Haley and Justin to her tone-deaf comments and the fact that she’s still considered a singer despite not having released an album in years. Oh, but she did release a new album back in 2025 with her husband Benny Blanco, who uh has a little bit of a toxic relationship with her.

If you go back in time, Selena was always destined to be famous. She started out as a Disney kid and became a fan favorite in Wizards of Waverly Place. From there, her career was being shot forward by Disney. She was starring in tons of movies and releasing lots of music. In 2012, when Wizards of Waverly Place ended, Selena was looking for more roles and ways that she could kind of escape Disney’s shadow.
For a bit, she focused on her acting career, which allowed her to reach audiences more than she ever had before. Up until this point, Selena was just performing on shows and had yet to release her own album after leaving Disney. That is until she released her first album, Revival, which put her directly on top. The thing about Selena is that she always preferred acting over singing.
In fact, it was always just a hobby for her. And she’s actually been quoted saying this. She said she had never really intended on being a singer full-time, but that hobby evolved into a career during her days working with Disney. Gomez later clarified that music isn’t going away and that she had just set it down for a second.
That’s why I don’t entirely trust this whole new album thing that she did with her new husband. Like, is it just me or is it weird that she actually decides to go ahead and release an album the moment that she gets married to somebody who very clearly doesn’t really treat her very well? And don’t worry, we’re going to be getting into that in a bit.
Not to mention that he looks like a barefooted hobbit. That’s besides the point. And then remember when everybody started to notice Selena’s new botched face? Wow, what a very strange coincidence that she gets her face done the same time that she releases said album. And you guys know I’m a conspiracist, but I might be on to something here.
It just kind of feels like she was really planning for some massive comeback which really just ended up flopping because the only thing I really heard about that album was her new face. That was only I don’t even know what that song was from that picture of her new face. And honestly, this has become a very common theme throughout Selena’s entire career, which is that people just think she just simply isn’t as impressive as she was before, which honestly probably really hurts.
Now, let’s take a look at both sides, her singing and her acting. For her acting, she’s always had to try to one up her own performance from back when she was a Disney kid. It’s almost like she really had to prove herself to show the audience that she can indeed act in more mature movies. But the sad thing is is that people are actually starting to think that she is getting worse and worse.
Back then, when she was younger, she was always praised for how dead pan and comedic she could be. And honestly, I loved her on the Disney Channel. I grew up watching her and I thought she was hilarious. Now though, people are constantly talking about how they feel that she’s gotten less expressive, less emotional, less of a good actress in general.

I can’t even watch this. Like, in good faith, I cannot show you guys this. It’s too cringe. Her acting in the show Only Murderers has been described as nearly unwatchable, which I think I can agree with.
Like, with these clips, guys, it’s honestly understandable. This all does make you ask, what in the world happened to her? Was she always a bad actress? I don’t know. Maybe because I was a kid, I thought she was sleigh, but maybe I was blinded or something. Or the reality, could this just be a dip in performance? She used to be way more expressive as an actress.
Not sure if it’s her illness, but her acting in OMITB is definitely monotone. Yeah, she always delivers her lines like she’s gritting her back teeth. I feel like she’s just reading it off something. She easily the worst part of that show, bro. It’s giving Ariana Grande and the [ __ ] Like, just put on a costume.
Like, you can’t be Galinda for the next 10 years. Relax. Watching these clips makes me feel like she actually is just playing Selena. Like, this is just Selena in a show. Now, some people might believe it has something to do with her lupus. ; Did anyone else see that interview of Selena Gomez being asked like which one of her songs does she love to sing or love to listen to? And she like has this weird PTSD reaction where to the camera she’s like for literally like five 6 7 seconds and you’re just like is she okay? I think one of her injectors like must have put filler up against two like one of her eye nerves or something cuz like literally one of her eyes was like I don’t know what was wrong.
Maybe they put Botox so the eye muscle can’t move but something was up. And up until now, people have just been giving her the benefit of the doubt, especially if it’s a character that she’s playing that doesn’t really require much range.
Little to no range or expressions or variance in tone. She sounds and looks like she’s on Xanax and it’s offputting. I’m sorry. Those clips were giving me Kim Kardashian and the Lawyer Show. Like, we could we can do better. Kim, just go be Kim. You don’t have to get into acting. What makes it even worse is the fact that she’s around Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Her lack of effort just stands out like a sore thumb. Bro, what are you doing getting onto a show with some of the greats? Bro, Steve Martin is a classic. Like, he is so much fun. I found her acting style worked in the first season but progressively got worse. I just can’t understand how she can work with the caliber of talent that she does and actually get worse.
It is your only job to make good blushes and freaking act well in this show. I I think you got time, girl. And like, I don’t know if it’s because she kind of talks geriatric. There are so many conspiracies going on that her consciousness has been traded with some 1900’s actor. Crazy work. Am I invested 100%. Let me see the resurrection.

Now, we’ve established that her acting hasn’t been up to par lately. I mean, nobody’s has. We’ll cut her some slack. But what about the singing? What What about the music? Well, the truth is she doesn’t really have much of a singing career in the first place.
I mean, she definitely has a couple of hits, but unlike other celebrities that I’ve covered on my channel like Ariana Grande, she just does not have the same level of discoraphy. And in terms of like the talent there, there is a huge huge gap. I remember when she first put out I had to lose you to love me and I was listening to that song and I was a part of the drama. I was loving it.
It was a crazy time. thought she looked gorgeous in the music video, but I just didn’t understand how this was a pop singer. I just I didn’t I didn’t understand it. I was like, “This is I I thought it had I thought the vocals had to at least slay.” From a young age and early career days, Selena Gomez’s vocal ability has always been a conversation that’s had.
Personally, I have always enjoyed her sultry voice as it’s been something that I don’t think I’ve heard anyone be able to replicate in the sense that proven vocalists like Ariana Grande, Shakira, Selen Dion, etc. have a very specific and unique voice, but it’s something that’s very easily mimicked, which is why there’s a lot of vocal impersonators for these voices.
Now, although Gomez did have a period in which her vocal abilities were significantly improving, possibly peaking from 2014 to 2017, there seems to have been a major decline in her vocal performance. This is a mystery that is not often addressed, if ever, but is one that stays in the back of my mind when I hear a Selena Gomez song.
Looking into this, her last onstage solo live performance was in 2019 when it was known that she had a panic attack right before the performance which may have impacted the overall performance. This was briefly addressed in her documentary as leading up to the performance she could not find her tone. Since then, we haven’t had any major performances besides the occasional guest appearance on a late night show or concert.
I think coincidence is a major play in this as a few times we’ve seen her perform as a guest. She seems very comfortable and her voice is more of an assistance to the main performer. One of my theories is that after her ongoing lupus issue declined her health severely. Her vocal abilities were medically impacted. Although she has never addressed this or pointed to her illness as a factor for her vocal ability.
It seems to be a substantial factor when it comes to her voice. Not only when singing, but also just having a conversation. I mean, there’s definitely some proof in the pudding there. She definitely talks very differently. And I think that’s why people think she’s traded consciousness with some actor from 400 years ago, but definitely she sounds different.
