voice made him stand out news about the singer with the powerful voice began to spread even though they recorded a few songs with producer Joe Meek they didn’t become successful right away things started to change when a Deca producer named Peter Sullivan saw them play at a show but even then it wasn’t easy the band recorded some songs but none of them became very popular then Tom met Gordon Mills a man who would completely change his life Mills wasn’t just someone who helped manage singers he had a special vision for the future he saw

something special in Tom something that could go far beyond the small clubs in Wales Mills brought Tom to London and gave him a new name Tommy Scott was gone he became Tom Jones named after a popular 1963 movie this name stuck but it was Tom’s amazing voice that would make him famous Mills worked very hard to get Tom a deal with a record company in 1964 they finally succeeded with Deca records their first song chills and fever came out that year but it didn’t do well no one seemed to notice it this put a lot

Caroline the song became a huge hit it reached number one in the UK and quickly became very popular in the United States suddenly Tom wasn’t just a singer known in his local area he was a sensation the successful songs kept coming that same year Tom recorded the main song for the James Bond movie Thunderball and the unusual and Unforgettable song what’s New Pussycat written by Bert Barak and Hal David at first Tom wasn’t sure about singing such a strange song but Barak convinced him and when Tom sang that famous chorus with power

it became another classic hit by 1966 everyone knew who Tom Jones was his strong deep voice was heard everywhere he even won a Grammy award for being the best new artist that year but just as quickly as he became famous his popularity started to decrease the British Invasion was happening and people were starting to like other kinds of music more than Tom’s it wasn’t that his voice was any worse but the music world was changing Tom needed to find a new way to be successful that’s when Gordon Mills helped him again Mills had

called from the heart they called it I don’t know why but it was a bunch of standards that I did you know with big Arrangements in 1967 Tom Jones entered the exciting world of Los Vegas for the very first time performing at the Flamingo Hotel this was a very important moment in his career the glamorous and energetic atmosphere of Vegas was a perfect fit for his personality and the people who watch watched his shows loved his big and exciting stage presence soon his shows became famous Tom wasn’t just singing anymore he was putting on a

fantastic show his shirts were often half open he wore tight pants and he had an open and inviting look which made him seem very attractive and added a special kind of excitement to his powerful voice Vegas became like a second home for him and from that time on he performed there for at least one week every year until 2011 but Jones didn’t just focus on live shows from 1969 to 1971 he became very famous because of his own TV show called This is Tom Jones which was shown in the UK and the US the show was worth a huge

amount of money at the time 9 million which was an incredibly large sum especially for a boy from Wales who once just wanted people to hear him sing the show had many different singers performing together fun skits and Jones’s special personality which helped keep him in the public eye while he continued to make hit songs people loved watching him and the show even earned him a Golden Globe award nomination Tom’s popularity started to decrease in the mid1 1970s the songs that were once very popular on the charts didn’t seem to be

the Tom Jones that the world knew after Mills died Tom’s son Mark became his new manager together they formed a good team and it didn’t take long for Tom’s career to be successful again in 1987 Jones became popular again in the UK with the song A Boy from nowhere which reached number two on the charts the next year he had another successful song with a new version of Prince’s song Kiss which he recorded with the electronic music group Art of Noise this was a very important moment for Jones the song had a modern and funky sound and when it was

of it was Melinda Rose trenchard his childhood sweetheart who everyone simply called Linda Tom and Linda’s story began when they were just 12 years old walking to school together in their small hometown of treest Wales by the time they were 16 Linda was pregnant and they decided to get married in a simple ceremony at the pontid register office from that Day in 1957 they were always together even though their relationship wasn’t always traditional as Tom’s career became very successful in the mid1 1960s Linda mostly stayed away from the

public eye while he was traveling the world and recording some of the most popular songs of that time Linda stayed at home taking care of their son Mark and keeping everything together she was the stable and unchanging part of his life the one thing that was always there during all the fame and excitement Tom Jones wasn’t always faithful to his wife Tom Jones himself admitted that he had affairs with many women during the peak of his Fame saying that he might have slept with as many as 250 women in a year his shows in Las

Vegas where he wore tight pants and had his shirt open only made him seem more like a romantic hero to many women women would often throw their underwear on the stage during his performances and Tom always Charming would playfully go along with it even though he was married to Linda Tom had relationships with many other women some of which were more public than others one of the most well-known Affairs was with Mary Wilson from the singing group The Supremes in the late 1960s they had a relationship for 2 years but it suddenly ended when Linda

found out about it Tom said that Linda was very angry when she discovered the affair and in a typical Welsh way she wasn’t afraid to talk to him directly about it but even though Tom was not always faithful Linda stayed with him even when he had a very public relationship with another famous woman in the early 1970s Linda decided to stay married to him in 1973 Tom had a short romantic relationship with margerie Wallace who was missworld at the time this became a big story in the newspapers and margerie Wallace lost her title because of the

Scandal the newspapers wrote many stories about their relationship and everyone was talking about it but when Linda found out it wasn’t just the newspapers that Tom had to explain things to he also o had to face his wife when Tom told Linda the truth she became very angry and hit him but again she decided to stay with him Tom ended his relationship with marjerie Wallace saying that no one was more important to him than Linda their relationship had another serious problem in 1987 when Tom had a short relationship with an

American model named Catherine Burker this time there were lasting effects Katherine Burker became pregnant and a DNA test later showed that Tom was the father of her son Jonathan even though this happened Tom refused to have a relationship with his son saying that the affair was a mistake and that he had been tricked Jonathan Tom’s son from the affair with Katherine burky is now in his 30s and it’s been reported that he has never met his father Tom didn’t say much about this situation for many years when asked about it in 2008 Tom admitted

that the affair happened but didn’t try to make things right with his son even though Tom had relationships with other women Linda and Tom stayed married Linda was known for being very private and rarely went to public events with Tom or traveled with him on tour she preferred to stay at home far from the exciting and glamorous life that her husband had in the late 1980s they bought a large and beautiful house in Wales and Linda focused on creating a peaceful and quiet life for the two of them even though they lived in Los Angeles for most of

their later years Linda always missed whales in the simple life they used to have as Tom continued to tour and make music Linda became more and more withdrawn from the world often choosing not to travel with him but even though they were sometimes physically far apart their emotional connection remained strong Tom once said that Linda was the most important thing in my life and he even admitted that he couldn’t lie to her because they both grew up in Wales and shared the the same values in 1999 when Tom released his very popular

album reload he recorded a song that was a special tribute to his wife the song called the road talked about the long journey they had taken together and the deep love he felt for her even though they had some difficult times the lyrics say all that I know is Wherever I Go the road always returns to you which shows that Tom realized that no matter how famous he became came Linda was always the most important person in his life Linda’s death in 2016 something very sad happened to Tom and Linda after a long fight against lung cancer Linda died Tom

was heartbroken he had been with her for 59 years and losing her was the hardest thing he had ever experienced in interviews after she died Tom talked about how much Linda meant to him she had been the foundation of his life the thing that kept him steady but in her final moments Linda encouraged Tom to keep going and not let her death break him one particular song became a powerful symbol of their love I won’t crumble with you if you fall a new version of an old song that Tom recorded in 2021 was inspired by

Linda’s words the song is about being there for someone when they are going through a difficult time but also having the strength to keep moving forward for Tom this song was a way to remember remember Linda and to honor her wish for him to continue doing what he loved singing after Linda died Tom moved back to the UK fulfilling Her Last Wish for him he left the big house in Los Angeles that she had decorated because he no longer felt happy there without her Tom’s performances became a way for him to deal with his sadness and he often
