They wanted to start a family immediately but they unfortunately struggled to get pregnant for 12 years i prayed for a child she was told she could never have kids and so i’m she says i’m her miracle baby on august 28th 1982 wilburn belinda’s miracle baby was born in jackson mississippi and they named her margaret leanne ryes who we know today as leanne rymes by the time leanne was just a toddler it was clear that singing was in her blood at this age most kids are just learning to string along sentences but leanne was
Belting out full on country songs i want but now wilbur and belinda knowing that their daughter loved to sing entered her into a local singing competition when she was just 5 years old since leanne was so young at this point they were just entering her into the competition for fun well everything would change when lean won that competition wilbur saw his daughter standing next to a trophy twice her size and it was at that moment he knew leanne was destined to be a star so in 1988 the rymes family they packed up all of their belongings and

When they came up with the idea to have lean sing the national anthem at a boys game lean sang the anthem ac cappella and just amazed everyone in the audience with so much buzz around her name a dallas lawyer named lyle walker teamed up with leanne’s dad to co-manage her career and he offered up his recording studio so leanne could start producing an album which she did produce her first album independently alongside her dad titled everybody’s sweetheart this is when songwriter and radio host bill mack discovered lean ryes he knew a song he
Wrote and recorded back in 1958 titled blue would be perfect for leanne the song was actually originally meant for py klein but she tragically passed away before ever being able to record it bill sent over the demo to leanne she loved the melody so much and immediately got into the studio she doesn’t remember exactly how it happened but in the first take she yodel the lyric blue and that would become the signature sound of the song setting it completely apart from what was popular then in the early ’90s country music scene i don’t know if my
Voice broke accidentally or what happened and that’s what i did and my dad’s like wow that’s that’s cool [music] oh so lome for now the first version of blue that leanne recorded was in 1994 when she was just 11 years old and it accompanied a whole new independent album that she produced with her father in 1995 a showcase for this independent album was set up for leanne in dallas and there are a ton of country music executives in the audience leanne went up there confidently she sang her songs incorporating her signature yodeling and

Within a matter of weeks she scored her first record deal signing on with curb records based out of nashville now fast forward to 1996 a 13-year-old leanne has recorded her first album under a major record label not only re-recording the song blue but titling the entire album blue as well but the record label started to run into some problems back in the 9s an artist success was totally dependent on radio play radio stations didn’t want to play leanne’s first single blue they were told by the radio stations that the song was too old
School or that lean was just too young behind the scenes it was like some big joke and people were laughing at leanne they were saying there’s no way this yodling 13-year-old could compete with the then wildly popular shania twain or faith hill the record label could only get five radio stations to play the song blue but five stations is all it took once people heard blue they couldn’t get enough the song took off instantly and radio stations everywhere including the ones who originally wouldn’t play blue now we’re playing blue nonstop she did
Exactly what the song needed and uh no i don’t think anybody else could do it like her it was just so incredible to hear this little bitty kid with that kind of vocal control i remember people saying the first time they heard it on the radio they pull over in fact paty’s husband told me that he had to pull over on the side of the road cuz it was so eerie how that reminded him of her by july of 1996 the album blue was released shooting right up to the number three spot on the charts and even managed to beat out
Shania twain shortly after leanne would make history in 1997 at just 14 years old she was nominated for two grammy awards one for best new artist and another for best female country vocal performance leanne was actually told to not even write a speech since country artists never win best new artist but leanne would win both categories becoming the youngest person ever to win a grammy and not just one grammy but two and the best new artist is [music] leanne [applause] [music] ryes oh my gosh i never expected this at
All this this award means more to me than anything in this world after snagging two grammys pretty much every songwriter and producer in the country music scene wanted to work with leanne diane warren an incredibly talented songwriter had just written a song called how do i live which was set to be you used in the disney movie conair diane just so happened to bump into leanne at a restaurant which was perfect because she said she had written the song with leanne in mind the very next day leanne was in the studio recording
What would be one of her biggest hits of all time how do i live the song was ready to be released as a single when disney felt like lean’s version of the song was just too pop and the lyrics were just not believable coming from a 14-year-old that is when disney had trisha yearwood record the very same song but with more of a country twist when diane the writer of the song found out that disney was releasing the trisha yearwood version she called up leanne’s record label curb and she told them to also release the song it was like a
Battle of the songs trisha and lean’s versions were released pretty much back to back with trisha’s version topping the country charts and leanne’s version topping the pop charts both versions of the same song were so successful that both leanne and trisha would be nominated for best female country vocal performance at the 1998 grammy awards which produced a very awkward moment in grammy history lean rymes was selected to perform the song at the award show but right after leanne performed how do i live trishia yearwood was announced as

Enter a very public relationship shortly after lean was apparently flipping through a magazine when she saw teen heartthrob andrew keegan and she said she thought he was cute so right after lean’s manager called up andrew and he set them up on a date lean and andrew hit it off so much on the date that from that moment on they were pretty much inseparable leanne ryes is in the house hi i’m andrew ke again and you’re about to experience the class of 2000 andrew how about if i change into something a little bit more comfortable

With britney spears vessa hudin and miley cyrus well leanne got that same treatment that we’ve seen time and time again she moved to los angeles at 16 years old and the world had such a hard time letting go of the 13-year-old version of leanne that they had initially fell in love with i totally changed personally my the way my appearances um mentally my music is changed there’s so many things that have changed about me i’m a totally different leam people will never let me forget that i was 13 starting out but they will
Always forget the fact that i still had a mind and i was changing and i wasn’t an adult and i was trying to figure out what i wanted to do but it wasn’t just the world that had a problem with this it was also the team surrounding her leanne’s dad and also manager wilbur started getting very angry with leanne he felt as if he was losing control of her while she was out in los angeles living with her boyfriend he started sending leanne very angry letters telling her there would be consequences if she continue to be in a
Relationship with andrew now mind you at this time lean’s dad was her business manager and also had total control of her money this is when leanne finally had enough she was done letting people run over her and control her like they had done for years she was 16 almost 17 and had done around 500 shows had put out multiple albums she had won gramys cmas and billboard awards she’s done non-stop press tours and was even getting into acting her whole childhood had been nonstop work work work she said at one point she looked around the room
And realized she was paying the salary of every adult there so naturally she started to question if these people really had her best interest at her or is she just a commodity to sell when you start as a child it’s always about get it while you can right get it while you can who knows how long it will last exactly so it’s then the money and then that leads to greed i was brought home to a trailer when i was a kid you know i mean that’s we had nothing and i was able to buy a house for my family when i was 12 which is crazy to say um and it
Was also crazy responsibility to have at some point at 16 you wanted to take back or take control it wasn’t even taking it back because you never had the control you wanted to take it back and i remember seeing an interview le where you talked about being in a room and looked around and realizing that everyone all of the adults you were their payroll you were paying them yeah um i still that still doesn’t quite register for me to be honest um it is very strange and by the way you say that blueprint that is presented for
Young stars it’s you know it’s really one of destruction andrew keegan you know he’s in the acting world and he’d been in the business for quite some time so he asked leanne if she even knows how much she’s paying her dad or you know does she even know how much money she’s even making lean at the time had no clue and that is when she used andrew’s lawyer to send a letter to her dad asking to take a look at the book so she can see where her money was going at first the ‘s dad wilbur refused to show the books to andrew’s lawyer and said
That you know he could go over it with just leanne however leanne did get her hands on the books and she had accountants investigate whatever they found in that investigation it wasn’t very good and in the year 2000 belinda ryes lean’s mother who has since been divorced from wilbur she files a lawsuit on lean’s behalf as lean is still a minor the lawsuit was against lean’s father wilbur and co-manager of the business lyall walker she found out he was getting 30% of her income as a co-manager another 30% of her record
Sales and an additional 10% for being her legal guardian so he is triple dipping off of her income leanne learns that she made $7 million between the years 1996 and 1999 but her father made 11 million and her father’s partner lyall walker as co-manager made $5.5 million it was really very hurtful you don’t know who to trust you can’t trust yourself you can’t trust any the suit claimed that wilbur and co-manager ly walker defrauded leanne by duplicating and augmenting their manager and producer fees they allegedly conducted
Some under the table dealings with a transportation company and insurance agent that just so happened to be lyle walker’s son essentially they were accused of manipulating lean’s company for their own financial benefit lean’s dad’s initial response to the lawsuit is one we have seen before where hollywood parents turned managers quote mismanage their child’s money wilbur said he fed leanne taught her to sing and perform and that he sacrificed his own dreams to finance her efforts to develop her career into a successful one wilbur then
Decided to file a counter suit against leanne well technically against her company lean rhymes entertainment incorporated wilbur seemingly used this countersuit to air out all of his daughter’s dirty laundry to the public this is where he exposed lean’s alleged romantic relationship with brian white that we discussed earlier in the video he also said that lean wrecked a $350,000 bank ly she would use her credit card to buy alcohol and that she would spend $10,000 on her hair he called lean a spoiled brat in the court
Filings stating that her extravagant lifestyle is to blame for her depleted money lean would also sue her record label curb when she had signed with curb a minor contract was in place making it so her parents had to approve everything now that leanne was a legal adult she wanted that minor contract removed so she wouldn’t be limited in making decisions about her own career she said she simply just wanted to be her own person and wants to speak for herself i’m a little bit nervous especially with all the publicity i’ve been getting
Lately lately i’ve been around so many lawyers i was afraid my next appearance might be on court tv you read the tabloid and you you hear the rumor on the streets and it was just this nasty dirty suing your father i mean no it was i’m 18 this is my family and this is business meanwhile while the lost was ongoing leanne would get hired on to sing for the movie coyote ugly now coyote ugly is one of my personal favorite movies basically a songwriter named violet moves to new york to make it in the music industry she ends up
Working at a bar called coyote ugly where the bartenders perform by dancing on the bar now i won’t ruin the rest but leanne’s role in the movie was lending her vocals to the main star violet played by piper parabo leanne even got to make a cameo at the end of the movie singing alongside piper on the bar top at coyote ugly lan says this movie marked a pivotal point in her career it was the first time she felt autonomous since she was 13 years old leanne was just 18 years old at the time but she said the song that was made for the
Movie can’t fight the moonlight became an introduction to her sexuality everyone around her had always presented her as this wholesome child and this was her step out of innocence coyote ugly would also lead to the end of andrew keegan and leanne’s three-year-long relationship according to multiple reports while andrew was on set supporting leanne he ended up becoming more interested in the star of the movie piper parabo the reports allude to cheating but we really don’t know what we do know is shortly after the
