If you have not watched episode one of this story, please go back and watch it first so you can understand how everything got to this point because this story did not begin with pain. Chief Ifeanyi Chukwudumebi was a wealthy and respected chief who fell deeply in love with a quiet and respectful girl named Rachi.
He trained her, supported her education, helped her build a successful skin care business, and gave her a luxurious life many women only dream about. But behind the wealth and beautiful lifestyle, another side of Chief Ifeanyi slowly began to appear, and before Rachi realized what was happening, the marriage she once prayed for started turning into an emotional torture.
Now, let’s dive into the second episode of the story. There is something many women don’t notice early enough. Sometimes, a man does not start showing his real character until he becomes fully comfortable, and comfort in this case is dangerous because once some people believe you cannot leave, they will stop pretending.
That was exactly what started happening in Rachi’s marriage. At first, the signs came quietly, so quietly that even she kept explaining them away inside her mind. The late night calls, the sudden irritation, the secrecy, and the unnecessary defensiveness. Rachi tried to convince herself it was business pressure. After all, Chief Ifeanyi was a wealthy man, and powerful men have stressful lives.
At least, that was what she told herself repeatedly, but deep down, something was changing. She could feel that the emotional closeness that once existed between them had reduced. Before, Chief Ifeanyi used to call her randomly during the day. He used to ask her if she had eaten. ; ; He used to send voice notes.
He used to speak to her like somebody genuinely excited about her existence. But now, everything felt mechanical. Even when he was physically present in the house, emotionally he was somewhere else. One evening, while they were having dinner, his phone lit up again. Watching noticed the way he picked it up immediately and turned the screen slightly away.
“Who is that?” she asked casually. Chifunza didn’t even look up when he answered. “It’s a business call.” Watching nodded, but something about the answer felt spurious. And we all know how right women’s instincts can be. Minutes later, the phone buzzed again. Then again, and again. This time, Chifunza stood up completely and walked outside to answer.
Watching sat there quietly staring at the food in front of her, and suddenly she lost her appetite. After he returned, she asked, “Is everything okay?” Chifunza frowned slightly. “What do you mean?” “You just seem distant these days, my love.” The atmosphere changed immediately. “Must there always be a problem?” he snapped. Watching blinked.
“No, I only asked.” Chifunza laughed dryly. One of those laughs that contain irritation instead of humor. “You women can complicate things, eh?” That statement stayed inside Watching’s chest painfully because she wasn’t trying to fight. She genuinely missed him. But instead of expressing that, she became quiet.
And silence is where many marriages start dying slowly. Over the next few weeks, things became worse. Chifunza started coming home later than usual, sometimes smelling heavily of alcohol. ; [snorts] ; Other times, he would disappear for entire weekends claiming meetings, business travel, emergency contracts. And because Rachi was not naturally suspicious, she kept trying to trust him.
But trust becomes difficult when behavior keeps changing. One weekend, he went out after receiving a call. Rachi went into his study to search for one document. She saw a phone in the drawer. It was not his regular phone. Coincidentally, the phone vibrated. She hesitated because her heart was already beating fast.
She tapped the screen and what she saw was “Baby” with a love emoji. Her stomach tightened immediately. Not because she lacked intelligence, but because if a prophet had told her that the same man who paid her school fees, who paid for her trips and advancement in skin care business would cheat on her, she would have slapped that prophet and called him a prophet of doom.
She stared at the phone for several seconds trying to calm herself, trying not to assume, and trying not to panic. Then the messages continued entering. “I miss you. When are you coming? You promised you would sleep there today.” Rachi sat down slowly like her knees suddenly forgot strength. And in that moment, the version of her marriage she had been protecting emotionally started cracking.
As Chief returned, she confronted him calmly. “Who is she?” Chief Ifeanyi looked at her without expression. “Who?” “The person sending messages to your other phone in the drawer. You would think that Ifeanyi would be shocked or maybe remorseful.” “Lie lie.” Instead, he attacked the method. That is something guilty people do often. “So, madam, your duty now is to search the house when I leave, right? You don’t even know who owns the phone.
That thing you are looking for, eh, you will soon get it in quantum. Continue, oh, you hear? Rachel swallowed painfully. I only wanted to understand what is happening. You are not the same man I got married to. You hardly take your calls in my presence. What is going on? Chief Nze stood up immediately, angry now. So, you want to start monitoring me, Abby? Rachel stared at him in disbelief.
Monitoring? Yes, he snapped. You women don’t know how to respect boundaries. Wow, boundaries, funny word, especially coming from a married man secretly entertaining another woman. But Rachel was too emotional to even argue properly. What exactly did I do wrong? she asked. Chief laughed and said, You are becoming too controlling.
That sentence hurt her deeply because deep down, Rachel knew herself. She was not controlling naturally. If anything, she tolerated so much, but something else disturbed her more. Chief Nze did not look guilty at all. He looked irritated, like somebody you offended for being questioned. That was when she finally understood that her husband was not cheating out of weakness.
He was cheating comfortably. And unfortunately, comfortable cheating is usually much deeper than emotional mistakes. From that day, arguments became more frequent, tension increased, communication reduced. And slowly, Chief Nze became openly disrespectful. Sometimes he would ignore Rachel for days inside the same house.
He became a master of malice. And other times, he would compare her indirectly to other women. Rachi cried privately. Then she prayed. Then she tried adjusting again, but we all know that people like Chief often mistake adjustment for permission. So things became worse. One night after another argument, Chief grabbed her aggressively.
Not enough to leave major injury, but enough to shock her completely because once physical aggression enters into any marriage, something sacred disappears immediately. Rachi slowly looked down at her hand, then back at her husband. And in that moment, fear entered her marriage properly for the first time. Not fear of poverty, not fear of struggle, but fear of the man she married.
Unfortunately, that was only the beginning because Chief Nze had not even reached his worst stage yet. There is something painful about betrayal. ; ; The betrayal itself hurts, but do you know what hurts more? It is discovering that everybody around you knew before you did. In Rachi’s case, everybody around her before now knew that her husband was a big-time womanizer.
So each time she says, “My husband is and my husband that.” And anytime she beats her chest to say, “I know the man that I married. He can never look outside.” They would just congratulate her and seriously laugh at her behind her back. Chief Nze changed completely. Now, he no longer even tried pretending.
His favorite statement became, “An average African man is polygamous in nature, so I am like my fathers.” And the painful part, whenever Rachi tried to talk about it calmly, he became angry immediately. “You are becoming paranoid, too. You think the world revolves only around you? If you are tired, then pack and leave.
I’ll make sure you don’t move an inch with my children. One day, after another argument, Rachel sat quietly in the children’s room while the kids slept. And for the first time in our marriage, she asked herself a frightening question, honestly. What if this man does not love me anymore? That question broke something inside her immediately because she remembered the old version of him, the man who pursued her intentionally, the man who once acted like losing her would destroy him.
But now, he behaved like her emotions irritated him. Still, [snorts] Rachel stayed. Not because she was weak, but because marriage is not easy to abandon emotionally, especially when children are involved, family members are connected, society is watching, and memories still exist. So, she kept on trying.
But unfortunately, Chief Emeka had already crossed emotionally into another world completely. Soon, [snorts] one of the girls working under her skin care company started behaving strangely around Chief. Her name was Esther, very fair, innocent-looking young lady. Rachel originally liked her. In fact, she was one of the fastest-growing workers in the company because Rachel personally trained her well.
Esther understood skin care quickly. She understood customer service as she knew how to market products online. Because the business was expanding fast, Rachel trusted her enough to move around different branches occasionally. But somewhere along the line, something changed. She suddenly became too excited anytime Chief Emeka visited the office.
Trust women to notice these things immediately, especially married women. At first, Rachi ignored it because she didn’t want to become suspicious over nothing. And again, Esther has this innocent look. But one afternoon, while reviewing some documents inside her office, she noticed Esther standing near the glass entrance downstairs speaking with Chief Funze.
Too closely, too comfortably. And the moment Esther saw Rachi looking from upstairs, the girl adjusted herself immediately and moved back. That movement alone disturbed Rachi deeply because innocent people really panic naturally. Still, she remained quiet. But now, she started observing carefully. And the more she watched Esther, the clearer things became. The girl had changed.
Even some workers started noticing it. One day, while two staff members were arranging products, Rachi overheard one of them whispering, “Have you noticed Esther these days?” Immediately they saw Rachi, they became quiet. That was when her suspicion became stronger. So, she decided to set a trap.
And honestly, women have been setting emotional traps long before men started calling themselves smart. The next day, Rachi casually entered the office and deliberately spoke where Esther could hear her clearly. “Chief called earlier. She said calmly, he said he forgot an important file here and he needs someone to help him bring it to the house.
” Immediately, Esther looked up. Rachi continued, “So, who will help us?” Esther mumushiously, permit me to use that word, volunteered without knowing that Chief Funze never called. And Chief wasn’t in the state at that time. Esther collected it and immediately she left the office. Rachi boarded a taxi back home.
Let me color for shock. Rachi got home before her. She went in and relaxed, but Esther was nowhere to be found. By the time she arrived, she was looking like the daughter of Jezebel. Apparently, she went home to change. She was looking nervous and excited at the same time. She knocked waiting for Chief Inze.
The moment Rachi opened the door, Esther almost ran mad. For several seconds, nobody spoke. Then slowly, Rachi asked, “So, you came to see my husband dressed like this?” Esther’s knees started shaking instantly. “Madam, I I I” But at that moment, there was nothing left to explain anymore. The evidence was standing physically already.
Rachi looked at her quietly, and strangely, she did not even feel immediate anger, just disappointment because this was somebody she personally helped to grow. Then [snorts] finally, she said to calmly, “You are fired.” Esther froze completely. “Madam, please don’t do this to me.” “You can leave now.” By the next morning, Esther no longer worked in the company.
The staff became tense immediately because everybody had already suspected something secretly. But now, madam had confirmed it herself. Meanwhile, Chief Inze heard about it after 1 week, and immediately, his reaction shocked Rachi. He became angry that Esther was dismissed. “But why did you dismiss her just like that?” he snapped.
Rachi looked at him quietly, and then she said, “She was trying to sleep with a married man.” At that point, Chief Inze almost exposed himself emotionally, but quickly, anger covered everything. “You should have informed me first,” He said. That statement alone told Rachi everything she needed to know because since when did she start telling him before relieving someone of their job? Two days later, Chief Mose quietly employed Esther directly into one of his own businesses.
He started giving her special treatment, moving her around occasionally, and suddenly, the same girl Rachi sent away became untouchable. Unfortunately, Rachi had not even seen the worst parts yet. We all know that there is a kind of thing that changes people permanently. It removes fear from somebody because once the person had cried too many times, ; ; endured so many humiliations, and swallowed so much disrespect, eventually, something would die inside them.
For Rachi, that death happened the night she saw Anita the nanny with her husband inside the guest room. Chief had sneaked out earlier, and when Rachi noticed his absence, she had to check everywhere in fear just to be sure that he was fine until she saw what my mouth cannot say. Not even with Esther, or the numerous girls he had been chatting with, but with Anita the nanny.
No wonder if she sends her on an errand, she would say she’s tired because she and madam are eating from the same source. That was the height of the humiliation. She asked her to pack her things as she would be leaving first thing the next day, but Chief countered it. “Lies. She goes nowhere.” He said.
Anita immediately smiled and raised her shoulders high like someone with the highest backup, and karma is here saying, “It’s not her fault now, but make she no worry, her judgment they come.” After that day, something about Rachi changed completely. She became calmer, and strangely, that quietness made Chifunze to relax because arrogant people often mistake silence for surrender.
Meanwhile, Rachel had not surrendered. She had simply stopped fighting emotionally, and there’s a huge difference between those two things. The next morning, Chifunze behaved like nothing serious happened. He came downstairs confidently, collected breakfast, checked messages, and answered calls like a man whose world was still completely under control.
Rachel watched him quietly from across the dining table, and for the first time in her marriage, she looked at her husband without emotional attachment controlling her thinking, and suddenly, she could see him properly. Not the man she fell in love with, not the man who paid her school fees, and not the man who once made her feel protected.
She saw a man who enjoyed power too much, a man who believed money could excuse character, a man who has slowly turned marriage into ownership, and worst of all, a man who no longer feared losing her. After he left, Rachel sat alone in the living room for a very long time. Then slowly, her eyes moved around the mansion.
The expensive furniture, the decorations, the chandeliers, the lush room. Everything she once thought represented success. And suddenly, with pain, she said, “This house is beautiful, but I’m not safe here.” She cried, not because of Chifunze this time, but because of her children, because suddenly, she started imagining what would happen if this environment continued for years.
The tension, the disrespect, the fear, the emotional instability, and something inside her refused that future immediately. That same night, another incident happened. Chifunze returned home drunk and made very drunk. And that I was not around that evening, but the tension in the house still felt heavy. Mati stayed quiet intentionally because she no longer had energy for confrontation.
But as Chief entered the room, he suddenly started talking aggressively. You think I don’t know what you are doing, right? Mati frowned slightly. What did I do now? Chief laughed bitterly. You were trying to make me look like a bad person. The irony almost made her laugh, but she remained calm and replied, “No one is trying to make you look bad.
” That answer irritated him more. He stared at her strangely like someone hearing an unfamiliar language. Then suddenly, he grabbed a glass from the bedside table and threw it violently against the wall. Mati jumped instinctively. The children woke up immediately crying from the noise. The staff rushed out to know what was going on.
And for several seconds, nobody spoke. Chief pointed angrily at her. “You, this woman, you are pushing me, you. You are seriously pushing me to the wall.” Then he staggered out. That night, after everybody calmed down and the children slept again, Obed, one of the staff, came to meet her where she was sitting and then he said, “Madam.
” He looked around carefully before proceeding. “I am sorry you are going through all these, but please, ma, you need to be very careful.” That sentence chilled her instantly because Obed was not somebody who spoke carelessly. Mati stared at him. “What do you mean?” Obed swallowed hard, clearly afraid. Then quietly and almost whispering, he said, “Things are happening in this house that are not normal.
” Rachelle felt her heart beating crazy immediately. “Obed, what are you trying to say?” He lowered his eyes. “Madam, I respect you too much to lie to you. I don’t think you and your children are safe here anymore. I overheard Anita saying that she would teach you a lesson.” That night, Rachelle did not sleep at all.
She sat beside her children for hours thinking, remembering, calculating, and praying. Before morning finally came, she made up her mind to leave. But, here comes the problem. Because for someone like Chief, you can’t leave with his children. In fact, you dare not unless you’ll be entering the rabbit hole. If not, he will look for you.
And since he’s a powerful man, winning him will really hard. So, she decided to take her time in planning so she wouldn’t end up being the loser here. She stayed in the house like somebody studying danger. And once a woman reaches that stage mentally, everything will change. Now, she noticed details differently.
The way Anita moved freely inside the house. The way Chief and his defended her aggressively. And the way staff members avoided certain conversations immediately she entered. Even the atmosphere inside the mansion had changed completely. Before, Rachelle was the center of the house. Staff respected her orders. But now, the house felt divided because Anita would always want to show herself.
One morning, she finally broke the news of her pregnancy. The announcement hits the mansion like thunder. Rachelle who has spent months pretending to be emotionally strong suddenly felt the room spinning around her. Her chest tightened. Her breathing became shallow. And before anybody could understand what was happening, She collapsed.
The next thing she heard was the sharp smell of hospital spirits and nurses talking in low voices. When she opened her eyes, Chief was sitting beside her bed looking like a man who had not slept in days. For the first time since Anita entered their lives, the proud Chief looked small. “Rachi,” he called.
She turned her face away. “I am sorry,” he said. “I know I’ve hurt you.” Rachi [snorts] laughed bitterly. “Hurt?” She repeated that weakly. “You chose the nanny I brought into our house and turned me into a stranger in my own marriage. That is beyond hurt.” Chief moved closer. “I know I made mistakes.” “No,” Rachi replied calmly.
“You made your choice. You have done your worst already. At this point, I just want peace. I will look for an apartment after my leave.” Chief Princess’ head snapped up immediately. “No, you cannot leave. You are my wife.” “But I cannot live in that house anymore,” Rachi replied. Without another word, he brought out his phone and transferred a huge amount of money into Rachi’s account.
“Use this,” he said. “Get whatever you need when you are fully recuperated, but please don’t leave me.” Rachi stared at the alert when it entered. The amount was massive. A normal person would have rejected it out of pride, but Rachi did not reject the money. Unknown to Chief, that she had a dangerous and a patient plan.
For that plan to work, she needed money. So, she said slowly, “Thank you.” Chief sighed in relief thinking her heart was softening towards him again. When she was discharged from the hospital, she immediately started searching for an apartment secretly. She wanted a place where she could finally breathe away from the humiliation in that mansion.
But, what she didn’t know was that Chief had already moved ahead of her. As one of the biggest real estate businessman, he had made calls that no agent should rent any apartment to his wife. And just like that, house hunting became impossible. Every [snorts] apartment Rachi liked suddenly became unavailable. Some agents stopped answering her calls.
Others became nervous the moment they recognized her name. One woman even whispered apologetically, “Madam, please don’t put me in trouble. Chief had already warned everybody.” That was when Rachi truly understood the kind of prison she was living in. Frustrated and emotionally exhausted, she finally accepted her husband’s suggestion that Anita should temporarily leave the mansion.
At first, the peace felt heavily. She could finally walk around freely without feeling like a visitor in her own home. But, the peace lasted only 2 months because Anita returned one evening with swollen eyes and one hand dramatically placed on her stomach. “I cannot continue staying away from the father of my child,” she announced emotionally.
“This pregnancy is not easy. My child needs his father’s presence.” Rachi looked at her without expression. Chief, guilty and confused as always, immediately agreed. And just like that, Anita returned. But, this time she came back with bags of trouble. Anytime Rachi complained, Anita would hold her stomach dramatically and say, “The same right you have in this house are the same right I have now.
” Those words pierced her deeply every single time. But, somehow she absorbed everything silently because unknown to everybody in that mansion that she already had a plan. A dangerous plan at that. And in her heart, she kept telling herself the same thing over and over again. It’s only a matter of time. Don’t worry.
Months later, Anita finally gave birth. The moment the doctor announced it’s a boy, Chief Ifeanyi nearly lost his mind with happiness. For [snorts] years, his family members had pressured him endlessly about having a male heir. Even though Rachi had given him beautiful daughters, the old men in his village never stopped whispering about lineage and inheritance.
Now, Anita had given birth to a son and overnight, everything changed. Cows went down. Musicians flooded the mansion. Money was sprayed like water and Chief Ifeanyi carried the baby around proudly as though he personally gave birth to him. Meanwhile, Rachi watched quietly from a distance.
The same relatives who once mocked Anita for being an outsider suddenly started respecting her. Even the workers in the house became extra careful around her and Anita enjoyed every second of it. In fact, she became worse after childbirth. One day, she looked at Rachi and said boldly, “I know you are jealous of me, but I did not create the traditions.
I only gave Chief Ifeanyi what his family had been praying for.” Even Chief looked uncomfortable, but Anita continued confidently. “After all, I am the mother of the first son of this house.” For a few seconds, Rachi simply stared at Anita. The old Rachi would have exploded instantly, but not this new Rachi.
This new version of her was frighteningly calm. Chief quickly cleared his throat awkwardly and said, “Anita, that’s enough.” But Anita was just getting started. “Why is it enough?” she asked innocently. “Am I lying?” Then she turned to Chief. “Since Rachi’s children have rights, my own child also has rights.
And since Rachi has businesses you opened for her, you should also open businesses for me.” The entitlement in her voice shocked even the workers nearby, but Anita was not done. “You said yourself that her son is your heir.” “In Igboland, guests virtually get married and leave, but with son carries the family’s name.” Rachi couldn’t fight her tears again because the statement hit her like a slap.
Not because she believed it, but because Chief did not correct her immediately. Instead, the man sat there quietly as though part of him actually agreed. And that silence wounded Rachi more than words. ; ; Eventually, Chief said, “We will discuss the business later.” And that was all Anita needed to hear.
From that day onward, she carried herself like the crown queen of the mansion. Meanwhile, Rachi was dying slowly inside because the humiliation had become unbearable. And the worst part was that Chief still refused to let her leave. As soon as she noticed Chief’s lifestyle, she completely stopped allowing him into that place.
And since he knew how to collect what she was keeping from outside or from Anita, he himself didn’t bother. One night, after drinking heavily downstairs, he walked into Rachi’s room uninvited. Rachi immediately sat up from the bed. “What are you doing here?” she asked. Chief locked the door behind him and said, “Don’t forget that I’m still your husband.
” “Leave my room!” Rachi snapped. “I said leave.” But instead of leaving, he moved closer. Rachi’s eyes filled with tears instantly because memories flooded her mind. Chifu reached for her, but Rachi pushed him away sharply. “I am tired.” She cried. “Every day in this house is humiliation after humiliation.” But Chifu didn’t care.
The next thing that happened is not what you want to hear. After that incident, Rachi became completely gone. Quietly, she began putting all her businesses up for sale. She contacted an agent from another state entirely and piece by piece, she started liquidating assets. The agent became suspicious at some point and then he asked, “Madam, are you relocating?” But she covered up immediately.
Night after night, while the man Chifu slept peacefully, she would sit alone with documents spread across her bed planning. On some one day that Chifu walked in unexpectedly, and you won’t believe what happened next. The Karma Tribe. Like I said, this will be in three parts.
